THIS COURSE IS AIMED AT anyone new to preaching or looking to preach in their church for the first time. It is designed to be worked through with your vicar or church leader.

Preaching brings life to the Church – but can be a daunting prospect for the beginner. The First Time Preacher course is a fully online module which assumes no prior knowledge or experience. It functions as a kind of ‘workbook’ to help you begin exploring the realities and tasks of a preaching ministry.

The course can be following in your own time, at your own pace. It is split into four sections:

  • Why do we preach? Looking at theology and practice.
  • What to preach? Learn to identify the ‘what’, working with the text to identify ‘one big idea’.
  • How to preach? Developing skills and exploring the art of communication in shaping an effective sermon.
  • Moving forward. Getting ready to preach your first sermon, gathering feedback and how to progress.

How does the course work?
