Join us for a day of learning, networking, and inspiration at our upcoming parish workshop day. With 9 engaging sessions to choose from, covering topics such as finance, communication, Net Carbon Zero, faculty processes, and more.

You can book in advance which workshops you would like to attend, and come and go as needed throughout the day. Or you might prefer to just come in for one session that would particularly benefit you in your context. Lunch will available and there will be plenty of opportunities to connect with members of the central support team throughout the day.

Places are very limited for this event, so make sure you book on as soon as possible to ensure you can attend the most helpful workshops for you and your team. We look forward to seeing you there!

Workshop Details

SESSION 1: 9.15-10am

  • Trustee Responsibilities. Understanding the role of the Parochial Church Council and responsibilities attached to it.
  • An overview of the Faculty Process. Applying for permission for works, looking after your church building, what is the DAC, the various personnel involved and related matters.
  • Sequestration & Fee Returns: Overview and Drop-In – A brief overview of the requirements of sequestration and fee returns, with tips for a smoother process, followed by an opportunity for specific questions and answers or a general drop-in style clinic.

SESSION 2: 10:15-11:00am

  • Completing a Growing Disciples Plan. Get practical advice and support to create or refresh your Growing Disciples Plan. Discover how this simple but valuable tool can help your church identify priorities, support local growth, communicate your vision with the PCC and congregation, and align future plans with the diocesan vision. Whether you are starting from scratch or updating an existing plan, this session will help you develop a plan that brings clarity, focus and purpose.
  • Clergy Housing: Common questions and issues. A session from the Property Team on the most common issues encountered in successfully maintaining parsonage housing. Covering Diocesan responsibilities, occupant responsibilities, Top Tips for preventing common repairs, and health and safety. Followed by an opportunity for questions and answers.

SESSION 3: 11:15-12:00pm

  • Need-to-Know Parish Communications Checklist!  A practical workshop exploring the essential communications every parish should have in place. We’ll cover everything from printed materials and noticeboards to websites, social media, and keeping church information up to date, along with simple tips to help your church be more visible, welcoming, and connected to your community.
  • Your School Your Mission Field – Bringing the Living Hope of Jesus into your Local School.

    • This workshop will:
      • Emphasise the incredible potential of churches and schools engaging with each other.
      • Link the Church of England Vision for Education with the Diocesan Vision of Living Hope.
      • Develop the concept of building pathways between church and school.
      • Explore practical ways in which the church can become part of the life of the school.
      • Include time for questions and discussion.

SESSION 4: (1:00 – 1.45 pm)

  • Your School Your Mission Field – Bringing the Living Hope of Jesus into your Local School
    This workshop will:

    • Emphasise the incredible potential of churches and schools engaging with each other.
    • Link the Church of England Vision for Education with the Diocesan Vision of Living Hope.
    • Develop the concept of building pathways between church and school.
    • Explore practical ways in which the church can become part of the life of the school.
    • Include time for questions and discussion.
  • Burning questions about burning through money on energy bills?!  Come and ask Sally Dunleavy (Net Zero Carbon Support Officer)  about…Church building maintenance and care, grants, faculties, heating, lighting, planning for a decarbonised future, A Rocha’s Eco Church and climate change information signposting.
  • Parish-Giving Scheme and Cornerstone.  A brief introduction to PGS and Cornerstone and how these free national online tools can help you to raise funds for your church. From planned giving, encouraging generosity and securing grant funding these tools can help leverage income for your church. Anne Coyne, Generous Giving Adviser.

 

  • Members of the Safeguarding Team will be present throughout the day. We warmly invite you to come along, ask questions and collect safeguarding resources for your Parish.
